Christ Church Cathedral Choir’s China Tour

Thursday 2 – Sunday 5 August

2 August, Beijing, 7.30 pm

4 August, Guangzhou, 8 pm

5 August, Shenzhen, 8 pm

The celebrated cathedral and college choir with more than 500 years of history will make their debut in China this summer. With the 12th century Oxford cathedral as its musical home, the choir is much loved for its youthful sound, ambitious programming and extensive discography. Stephen Darlington, Director of Music at Christ Church since 1985, will lead the16 boys and 12 men, including 6 undergraduates, as well as 2 organists, in three performances in the most impressive new concert halls in China, the National Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing, the Xinghai Concert Hall in Guangzhou and the Shenzhen Cultural Centre. The unique programme will take audiences from the 14th to the 21st century, with works by Vaughan Williams, Elgar, Brahms, Gershwin, McCartney and Lennon.

Tour to China

The Choir flies to Beijing on 31 July for its first  tour to China.  The concerts are in three of the most prestigious new concert halls in the country starting with the National Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing.  The concert programme will take audiences from the 14th to the 21st century, including works by Vaughan Williams, Elgar, Brahms, Gershwin, McCartney and Lennon.
