    Saturday 25 May 2013
    Newbury

Newbury Festival (final concert including newly-commissioned work from Mark Simpson)

Premiere of Francis Grier’s Missa Aedes Christi at Choral Eucharist

    Sunday 16 June (11:15)
    Christ Church Cathedral

    Unticketed

This remarkable work, commissioned in 2012, is the result of an artistic collaboration between Francis Grier, the composer, Stephen Darlington, Director of Music at Christ Church Cathedral since 1985, and Ross McKim, Director of the Cathedral Dance Project and Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance. The first concert performance on Friday 21 June (20:00) will be preceded by two liturgical performances earlier in the week: the world premiere at Choral Eucharist on Sunday 16 June (11:15) and a danced version of the work at Choral Eucharist on Wednesday 19 June (18:00).

Francis Grier was the obvious choice for this bold and innovative commission. He has established himself as significant contemporary composer of sacred music and received much acclaim for the originality of his compositional style, reflected in major commissions for Westminster Abbey, King’s College, Cambridge, Christ Church, Oxford, and St George’s Chapel, Windsor, amongst others.
